The Clark Art Institute received the 2014 Apollo Award for Museum Opening of the Year during presentation ceremonies held in London on December 3.

The award, presented by Apollo, the noted international arts magazine, recognizes major achievements in the art and museum worlds.

The Clark received the award in recognition of its distinctive success in combining new construction, a subtle renovation of its existing facilities, and a significant rethinking of its landscape to create a unified new campus. Other museums nominated for the 2014 Museum Opening of the Year award included the Aga Khan Museum, Toronto; the Imperial War Museum, London; the Musée du Louvre’s Eighteenth-Century Decorative Arts Galleries, Paris; and the Mauritshuis, The Hague.

A Miami-area penthouse under construction that comes with a small fractional ownership of two Jeff Koons sculptures is asking $29.5 million, according to the developer, Argentine firm Consultatio.

A five-bedroom duplex apartment on the top floors of the 28-story building, the penthouse, will measure roughly 19,320 square feet, of which about 9,370 square feet will be interior living space. Outdoor areas will include a rooftop pool, Jacuzzi tub and entertaining space overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. There will also be 7½ bathrooms, a sauna, exercise area, two dens and a massage room. The building is in the early stages of construction with a projected 2016 completion date.

The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art announced today that Don Bacigalupi will be the organization's founding president. He'll be leaving his current job as president of Alice Walton's Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas, to join the Lucas Museum on January 15.

Bacigalupi was hired by Crystal Bridges as executive director in 2009, two years ahead of its opening, and became president in 2011. Before that, he was president of the Toledo Museum of Art. He oversaw major construction and start-up projects at both institutions. He has a PhD in art history from the University of Texas at Austin.

Berlin's art scene continues to grow. After over two years of controversy and political wrangling, the Bundestag's budget committee has approved €200 million for the construction of a new museum for modern art in Berlin, the DPA reports. The plan was confirmed by the SPD political party's budget expert Swen Schulz on Thursday. The new building is expected to open in 2021.

The confirmation brings an end to years of uncertainty first about whether Berlin would get approval to create its new museum at all, and later regarding who would pay for the creation of the institution (see "Will Private Sector Fund German MoMA?").

Eli Broad's new contemporary art museum that is currently rising in downtown Los Angeles will now open some time in fall 2015, organizers said on Tuesday.

The museum has experienced delays since construction began in 2012, and an expected 2014 opening was scratched earlier this year.

Broad officials didn't provide specific dates in their announcement. The museum, designed by the firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro, is expected to cost about $140 million and will feature artwork from the private collection of Eli and Edythe Broad.

Combatants in a lawsuit over construction problems at the Broad Collection museum now rising in downtown Los Angeles have decided to keep their work gloves on to finish the project before taking them off to fight over who’s to blame for delays and alleged cost overruns.

The Broad contends that problems caused by the subcontractor hired to provide the museum's distinctive concrete and glass exterior drove up costs by at least $19.8 million and set the museum's planned 2014 opening back by at least 15 months.

When Delaware Art Museum leaders announced in 2001 an ambitious plan to nearly double the size of the institution's Kentmere Parkway location, they likely had no clue the project would threaten to bankrupt the institution – twice.

A Mexican federal agency has denied the environmental permit to allow the construction of the $105m International Baroque Museum in Puebla, less than a month after the groundbreaking ceremony.

Construction is on track at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), where workers put the last steel beam in place on the massive expansion Wednesday, writes ABC‘s local San Francisco affiliate. The building, designed by architecture firm Snøhetta, is being erected behind the institution’s current home, the work of Mario Botta.

SFMOMA has been closed for construction since June of 2013. The old building had seen roughly 11.5 million visitors cross its threshold since opening in SOMA (short for South of Market) in 1995, and was ill-equipped to accommodate the museum’s growing popularity and collection.

Public and private institutions are joining forces to restore the 13th-century Basilica of Santa Maria di Collemaggio in the earthquake-damaged town of L’Aquila, Italy.

According to the plan presented to the mayor Tuesday, the regional heritage authority will oversee the design, construction work and security of the site, while three universities (Milan, Rome and L’Aquila) and the Italian energy group Eni will advise on technical matters, such as improving the long-term earthquake resistance of the building. Eni is financing the €12m project. A call for tenders has been released to appoint a contractor by December, with a projected completion date in 2016.
