The stream of news and discoveries about Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa are seemingly never ending. In a shocking twist, it's now been reported that a second version of the iconic portrait might have been discovered in a private collection in St. Petersburg.

Experts are now analyzing the artwork in order to establish whether it is a genuine work by Leonardo da Vinci or simply one of the many convincing replicas in existence around the world.

More than 100 unseen works by Andy Warhol will go on display next year.

The exhibition will span Warhol's entire career from famous works of the 1960s to the experimental creations of his last decade.

Dozens of paintings, sculptures, screen prints and drawings from a private collection will sit alongside loans of the US pop artist's films from the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh to form an exhibition at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford.

Attention all Francis Bacon fans: in April 2016, the artist's estate will publish Francis Bacon: Catalogue Raisonné, the first comprehensive catalog of his oeuvre. The book, which has been in production for a decade, will feature over 100 previously unseen canvases, some of which were recently unearthed from a private Italian collection.

"The stuff that has been written about Bacon, some good and much of it less good, is based on about a third of his work," art historian Martin Harrison, who worked on the catalog, told the Guardian.

A drawing of hell previously attributed to a workshop assistant of Hieronymus Bosch has now been recognized as an authentic work by the master himself according to the experts conducting the Bosch Research and Conservation Project (BRCP) examining the artist's works worldwide.

The drawing has been hidden away in a private collection and will go on public display for the very first time as part of the major exhibition of works by Hieronymus Bosch at the Noordbrabants Museum in Den Bosch opening on February 13, 2016. Art historian and co-ordinator of the BRCP, Matthijs Ilsink, calls the drawing "an extraordinary find."

A rare still life cubist collage by Pablo Picasso that features newspaper cuttings of ads for Quaker oats and Cherry Rocher cherry brandy has been acquired by the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.

Of the 30 collages Picasso made, only a handful remain in private hands. It shows a stylized glass and bottle standing on a table, in a medium seen as revolutionary in the early 20th century. It was made using charcoal, ink and pencil and stencilled lettering, but the bottle was cut from samples of a French newspaper, Le Journal, dated 12 December 1912.

Aristophil, the scandal-hit French company that amassed the world’s largest private collection of manuscripts, has been liquidated and its stock will be put up for sale. The August 5 judgment in the Commercial Court, Paris, was based on its “complete insolvency”.

The company’s accounts were frozen in November 2014 by state prosecutors, who described Aristophil as a type of Ponzi scheme (in which existing investors are paid by new investors, rather than out of profits). A mansion owned by the company in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Paris, was sold in July for around €28m, the proceeds of which went to Aristophil’s bank, Société Générale.

On December 2, 2015, selected items from the most comprehensive private collection of Song ceramics ever to appear at auction will be offered for sale at Christie’s Hong Kong. Carefully assembled over three decades by a distinguished Japanese collector, The Linyushanren Collection is comprised of exquisite examples created during the Song dynasty (960-1279), encompassing some of the most important kiln sites active across China at the time.

The highlight of the 36-lot sale is a very rare Ge foliate dish dating from the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279). It was shown in the seminal 1952 exhibition dedicated to Chinese ceramics by the Los Angeles Museum, and was once owned by the famous collector Stephen Junkunc, III (Estimate on Request).

When the Broad museum in downtown Los Angeles officially opens on Sept. 20, visitors will be treated to a selection of more than 250 works of contemporary art culled from the private collection of founders Eli and Edythe Broad, museum officials will announce on Friday.

Though many of the pieces have been seen in public before, this will be the most in-depth display of art from the 2,000-piece collection, spotlighting more than 60 artists.

Extraordinary work by glass luminary Dale Chihuly is shown at Museum of Glass through January 4, 2016. Creating a vibrant display, the exhibition features Chihuly’s own contemporary versions of Italian Art Deco Venetian sculptures.

Chihuly’s Venetians were developed from the inspiration he acquired while making a trip to Venice in 1988. During this trip, he visited a gallery that housed an extraordinary private collection of Venetian glass that represented the pinnacle of Venetian Art Deco. Returning to the U.S., he then decided to create his own versions of the classic pieces with his unique, lively twist.
