Joan Miró was a prolific graffiti artist who covered the walls of one studio with ideas for new works. These sketches “show how he thought”, says the Spanish artist’s grandson, Joan Punyet Miró, who is organising a show in London about his grandfather’s studio life in collaboration with the Galería Mayoral in Barcelona.

“The Moderns: Chagall, Degas, Léger, Miró, Picasso and More...,” an exhibition that fills nearly all of the sprawling galleries at the Nassau County Museum of Art, in Roslyn Harbor, is really two shows in one. The first, subtitled “Selections From the Saltzman Family Collection,” displays 35 works owned by Arnold A. Saltzman, the museum’s founding president and a major benefactor, who died last year at age 97.

The McNay Art Museum presents a rare glimpse at the later works of Spanish-born artist Joan Mirό (1893-1983), one of the greatest innovators of 20th-century art in Europe, during Miró: The Experience of Seeing. The exhibition opened September 30, 2015 and runs through Jan. 10, 2016. The McNay is the only southwest venue and final stop of the exhibition’s U.S. tour.

Featuring more than 50 remarkable paintings, drawings, and sculptures created by Joan Miró between 1963 and 1981, Miró: The Experience of Seeing is drawn entirely from the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, Spain.

The descendants of heiress and art collector Peggy Guggenheim lost their case in a French court Wednesday over her extensive collection of works housed in an 18th century palace on Venice's Grand Canal.

The French branch of the family launched legal action against the New York-based Solomon Guggenheim Foundation, which manages the collection.

The relatives are angry at the way the collection of paintings by artists including Picasso, Miro and Matisse are displayed and have called for it to be restored to its original configuration.

The first Joan Miró sculpture exhibit in the Netherlands opened in the Rijksmuseum garden on Friday. The exhibit consists of 21 sculptures by the Spanish artist.

Guest curator Alfred Pacquement, former director of the Centre Pompidou in Paris, selected the Miró sculptures for this exhibit.

Sotheby's New York announced it will offer the collection of Chicago philanthropist Jerome H. Stone over a series of auctions this spring. Stone assembled the collection over the course of the 1950s and '60s with the help of his wife Evelyn. It consists of blue chip works by artists such as Fernand Leger, Joan Miró, Alberto Giacometti, Juan Gris, and Marc Chagall, that together are expected to bring in more than $40 million.

Stone, who built his family business, Stone Container Corporation, into a national multi-billion dollar corporation, and later founded the International Alzheimer's Association, often bought from leading dealers including Pierre Matisse and Sidney Janis.

In Spain, police have busted up a group that allegedly created and sold fake works of art to unsuspecting collectors.

According to The Associated Press, the brazen gang was trying to pass of works from such easily identifiable masters as pop artist Andy Warhol, the surrealist Joan Miro, and even the most famous painter of the 20th century Pablo Picasso.

The officers have arrested nine suspects in the eastern region of Valencia.

An Interior Ministry statement said the people arrested are both those who have allegedly created the fake art, as well as possible accomplices who helped the paintings be sold in galleries and online.

The Baltimore Museum of Art today announced it recently added René Magritte’s 1967 sculpture "Delusions of Grandeur" to its renowned collection of modern art. This monumental bronze was created by the Belgian artist during the last year of his life and there are very few casts. The work came to the BMA as a gift of National Trustee Sylvia de Cuevas and is the first sculpture by Magritte to enter the collection. It will be displayed, beginning this week, in a gallery with works by Magritte’s contemporaries: Max Ernst, Alberto Giacometti, André Masson, and Joan Miró.

“We are thrilled to welcome this remarkable sculpture into the BMA’s celebrated collection of modern art,” said BMA Director Doreen Bolger. “This imaginative artwork so well represents Magritte’s unique vision and is sure to become one of the most memorable artworks on view here.”

Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art announces the opening of "Van Gogh to Rothko: Masterworks from the Albright-Knox Art Gallery," on view February 21 through June 1, 2015. The exhibition brings together 76 artworks by 73 influential artists from the late 19th century to the present, including Vincent van Gogh, Joán Miró, Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol, and Mark Rothko. The works were selected from the collection of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York, one of the finest collections of 20th century art in the country. General admission to the temporary exhibition is $10 and free to Members and youth under 18 years old.

The Evening Sales of Impressionist and Modern Art and The Art of the Surreal that took place at Christie’s London on February 4 realized a combined total of £147,031,000/$222,751,965/€194,080,920, selling 88% by lot and 94% by value. The auctions had a combined pre-sale estimate of £92.8 million to £133.8 million. The top price was achieved by Joan Miró’s "Painting (Women, Moon, Birds)," which sold for £15,538,500/ $23,540,828/ €20,510,820 against an estimate of £4 million to £7 million. In total, 36 works of art sold for over £1 million / 45 for over $1 million.
