The Baltimore Museum of Art announced on Tuesday that it has been promised $3 million — the third largest individual gift in its history — from two long-time supporters to pay some costs of its new center for education and creativity.

The Patricia and Mark Joseph Education Center, named after the donors, will open Sunday. The new center will culminate the final phase in the museum's multiyear, $28 million renovation project.

The Columbus Museum of Art announced that its new wing will be named the Margaret M. Walter Wing in recognition of Robert D. and Margaret “Peggy” Walter’s transformational $10 million donation to the Columbus Museum of Art. The Walters’ donation remains the largest gift in the Museum’s history and became the foundation for the Museum’s Art Matters Endowment and Capital Campaign.

The Walters are long-time supporters of the Museum. Peggy Walter began leading Museum tours as a CMA docent in 1971 and later joined the Museum’s Women’s Board auxiliary. She has also helped guide the Museum as a member of the Board of Trustees since 1994.

London's Royal Academy of Arts has turned to crowdfunding to raise £100,000 ($156,358) to bring eight Ai Weiwei tree sculptures to the English capital. The trees will be featured as a part of the artist's upcoming show at the RA this autumn.

To incentivize donors to contribute towards the project, the RA is offering rewards including limited edition prints and private tours.

The National Gallery of Art has acquired works by three contemporary female artists and a Chicago outsider artist using funds from the museum’s Collectors Committee and other donors.

Cecily Brown’s painting “Girl on a Swing,” Martha Rosler’s photomontage “Cleaning the Drapes” and Roni Horn’s cast-glass sculpture “Opposite of White, v. 2” were added to the collection at the museum’s board meeting May 1.

The Hyde Collection announced the appointment of Erin B. Coe as its new director. Ms. Coe earned a national reputation as an American art historian and curator who spearheaded The Hyde Collection’s widely acclaimed Georgia O’Keeffe exhibition in 2013.

“We are absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to bring Erin Coe back to The Hyde,” said Tenee R. Casaccio, chair of the Hyde Board of Trustees. “Erin’s energetic and passionate leadership, her scholarship and knowledge of The Hyde, her reputation in the art world and her strong relationships with donors and collectors will help The Hyde strengthen its ties to the community and its reputation as one of the Northeast’s leading small art museums.”

On Saturday, April 18, 2015, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art celebrated the museum’s 50th anniversary at a special fundraising gala, co-chaired by LACMA trustees Ann Colgin, Jane Nathanson, and Lynda Resnick. The evening welcomed approximately 750 guests and raised $5 million, the proceeds of which will benefit the museum’s programming and acquisitions. LACMA’s 50th Anniversary Gala was sponsored by Christie’s.

In honor of the occasion, Mrs. Nathanson and Mrs. Resnick gifted significant works of art to the museum’s collection; in addition, the two trustees led a campaign encouraging other patrons to donate or bequeath major artworks to LACMA.

The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston is receiving a major gift of 186 works seized by Nazi forces in 1938.

It’s taken decades for the donor’s family to recover the famed collection that includes fine jewelry, rare books and paintings. The objects have taken a fascinating journey between Vienna and Boston.

One of the confiscated works is a Dutch painting of a man on a horse titled, “A Dordrecht nobleman on horseback with retainers and grooms.” But instead of focusing on the front of the canvas, MFA curator of provenance Victoria Reed points to numbers and letters on the back. They’ve been drawn, etched and stamped onto the painting’s wooden stretcher.

Bright abstracts draw visitors' eyes to one wall, then life-like full sized figures tucked into a corner might startle them. On another wall, a full-sized truck is caught mid-slither. Such displays will continue to offer visual surprises during the Walker Art Center's 75th anniversary celebrations, especially tonight, when the center unwraps some birthday presents.

They are the fruits of an effort that began three years ago, when the Walker launched a campaign to seek donated art to mark the three-quarter-century milestone. Its new show, "75 Gifts for 75 years," gives insight into the importance donations play in a museum's collection.

The Royal Armouries branch at the Frazier History Museum, in Louisville, Kentucky, which opened in 2004, has failed to raise any money from US donors, we can reveal. Ten years ago, Britain’s national museum of arms and armour loaned 250 objects to the new US museum. Edward Impey, the director-general of the Armouries, says that as far he knows, the Frazier loans “did not raise a penny”. The objects will return to the UK when the partnership ends, by mutual consent, in January 2015.

Until recently, the Armouries’ website described the Frazier as one of its four “branches”, along with the Tower of London, its main museum in Leeds, Yorkshire, and Fort Nelson in Portsmouth, in the south of England.

Fifty works from numerous private collections are due to go on show at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (Lacma) next year, to mark the institution’s 50th birthday. The works, which are gifts promised by high-profile, Los Angeles-based collectors, are due to be unveiled at a benefit party on 18 April.

“The nice thing is that, after the 50th anniversary exhibition, the art goes back to the donors. They can live with it as long as they want—until the second they die—and then it will be left to Lacma,” the collector Jane Nathanson told the magazine "Los Angeles Confidential."
