Frieze London and the Contemporary Art Society (CAS) have teamed up on a new acquisition fund to support museums across the United Kingdom, which will help offset the shrinking local authority investment in arts and culture facilities, and highlight the fantastic work of regional museums. The Collections Fund at Frieze, an amount which currently stands at £50,000, was awarded to Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art after a competitive application process open to CAS's 70 Museum Members across the UK.

Frieze London and Frieze Masters open this week (October 6-9) at the Regents Park in London. It’s their 14th and 5th editions, respectively; the fairs will bring together more than 300 of the world’s leading contemporary art galleries from 30 countries. Frieze London will feature The Nineties, a new gallery section curated by Nicolas Trembley, as well as ambitious installations and solo presentations by the world’s most exciting artists, including many major female figures. Frieze Masters will excite with new curators, innovative gallery collaborations, incoming antiquities specialists, and Frieze Master Talks that will feature Marlene Dumas, Okwui Enwezor, Gabriele Finaldi, Philippe Parreno, Alastair Sooke and Lynette Yiadom-Boakye. Frieze Sculpture Park will open concurrently with the fair and will remain on view through January 2017.

The 13th edition of Frieze London takes place in The Regent’s Park, London from October 14–17, 2015. Frieze London is sponsored by Deutsche Bank for the 12th consecutive year, celebrating a shared commitment to discovery.

Unrivalled in quality, range and depth, Frieze London 2015 provides a discerning perspective on contemporary art, utilising the expertise of leading curators including Nicola Lees (Curator, 31st Biennial of Graphic Arts, Ljubljana), Clare Lilley (Director of Programme, Yorkshire Sculpture Park) and Gregor Muir (Executive Director, ICA, London) across its feature sections and programme.

In a surprise move, Frieze art fair announced on Thursday that in 2015 Victoria Siddall will become director of Frieze London and Frieze New York.

The fair’s co-founders, Amanda Sharp and Matthew Slotover, the current directors, said that the appointment of Ms. Siddall, who will also retain her position as director of Frieze Masters, will “give us the opportunity to focus on the future and to explore new projects for Frieze.”

Today, Frieze announced the 20 artists who will contribute work to its free sculpture park, on view for the run of both Frieze London and Frieze Masters from October 15 through 19. Curated by Yorkshire Sculpture Park’s Director of Programs, Clare Lilley, the Regent’s Park display includes work by Yayoi Kusama, Ursula von Rydingsvard, and Thomas Schütte, among others.

“Unique in the world’s art fairs, this year’s Frieze Sculpture Park is an intriguing and delightful breath of fresh air featuring artists from across three generations,” Clare Lilley said in a statement.

London-based creative design consultancy Universal Design Studio have been announced as the architectural team for Frieze London 2014.

Universal Design Studio was founded in 2001 by Edward Barber, OBE and Jay Osgerby, OBE to focus on architecture and interiors, building upon their award-winning product and furniture design portfolio.

In previous years the fair has employed a series of globally recognised architectural firms: Carmody Groarke (2011–2013), Caruso St John (2008-2010), Jamie Fobert (2006–2007) and David Adjaye (2003-2005).

Frieze London has announced the details of the 12th edition of their contemporary art fair to be held in Regents Park.  The fair unites over 160 of the world’s leading contemporary galleries under one roof. New for 2014 is a restructuring of the sections for participating galleries, introducing ‘Live’, a showcase for performance-based installations dispersed throughout the fair.

Frieze London will take place 15–18 October 2014 and is sponsored by Deutsche Bank for the 11th consecutive year. Frieze London is one of the world’s leading contemporary art fairs and brings an international art audience to the UK capital every October. For the third year, Frieze London will coincide with Frieze Masters, a fair that gives a contemporary perspective on historical art, which also takes place in Regent’s Park, London. Together the two fairs bring an unrivalled range of art together with an international art audience and benefit from a crossover of visitors.

The highly-anticipated contemporary art fair Frieze New York is currently underway on Randall’s Island in Manhattan. A spin-off of Frieze London, which launched in 2003, Frieze New York includes a full roster of workshops, lectures, and satellite fairs. Now in its third year, Frieze New York features over 190 of the world’s leading contemporary art galleries, with 53 participants from the fair’s host city.

A vibrant mix of established and emerging dealers, Frieze allots two sections, Focus and Frame, to rising galleries. Focus galleries are less than ten years old and exhibit curated projects conceived specifically for Frieze New York. The Frame section, which is dedicated to galleries established less than six years ago, presents solo shows and is overseen by Berlin-based curator and art writer, Raphael Gygax, and Tim Saltarelli, who is a New York-based curator and writer. Industry heavyweights, including David Zwirner Gallery, Gagosian Gallery, and Thaddaeus Ropac, are exhibiting works by minimalist Donald Judd, Pop artist Ed Ruscha, and German painter Georg Baselitz, respectively.

A recently discovered painting by Pieter Brueghel the Younger was revealed to the public at Frieze Masters in London this week. Old Master dealer and discoverer of the painting, Johnny Van Haeften, believes that the work is a reinterpretation of a painting by Pieter Bruegel the Elder, the artist’s father. The first version of the painting, created in 1566, resides in the Musees Royaux des Beaux-Arts in Brussels.

The Census at Bethlehem was first purchased in 1611 by a collector at Brueghel the Younger’s studio in Antwerp. For hundreds of years the painting remained in the possession of the same English family and although the owners knew of the work’s pedigree, they never publicized their important holding. In the 1940s, the painting was brought to Africa with other family possessions and eventually loaned to the family of Lord Delamere. In an unexpected twist, Van Haeften discovered the painting in Africa, as offshore trustees of the Delamere family now own it.  

The Census at Bethlehem sold for $10 million during the first few days of Frieze.
