Located in a sprawling multi-use facility in Los Angeles’ historic design district, the PDC houses the region’s top decorating and furniture market. On March 19, Boston kicked off its second annual Design Week. The city-wide festival celebrates all aspects of design, including interior design, architecture, and landscape design. Produced by Fusco & Four Ventures LLC, Boston Design Week boasts over eighty events ranging from book signings and panel discussions to exhibitions and open houses. The goal of the festival is to increase public awareness and appreciation of design, foster recognition of the vital role that design plays in our lives, and bring new audiences to an array of design industries and organizations. While the flurry of related events can be daunting, we’ve selected a handful of not-to-be-missed Boston Design Week happenings.

On Sunday, February 1, 2015, the 61st iteration of the inimitable Winter Antiques Show drew to a close at the Park Avenue Armory in New York City. Over the course of the ten-day event, collectors, first-time buyers, museum curators, interior designers, and dealers, took to the show floor to browse and snap up fine art, furniture, and decorative objects from antiquity through the 1960s (Fig. 1).

The show kicked off on Thursday, January 22, 2015, with an Opening Night Preview Party that welcomed nearly 2,000 attendees, including Martha Stewart, Michael Bloomberg and Diana Taylor, Arie and Coco Kopelman, Ellie Cullman, Thomas Jayne, Bunny Williams and John Rosselli, Sandra Nunnerley, and John Douglas Eason. The Preview Party, which benefited the East Side House Settlement, a community-based organization in the South Bronx, gave guests an opportunity to peruse and purchase works before the show opened to the public on Friday, January 23, 2015.

On Saturday, May 17, the 26th annual International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) will open at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan. This year’s fair will feature over 570 exhibitors offering everything from furniture and seating to carpet and flooring, lighting, outdoor furniture, wall coverings, accessories, and textiles. For the first three days of the fair, admission is exclusive to trade professionals, including interior designers, architects, retailers, developers, manufacturers, store designers, and visual merchandisers. On Tuesday, May 20, the show will open to the general public.

Widely regarded as one of world’s trendiest design fairs, the ICFF is the go-to venue for designers looking to unveil their latest creations to the public. This year’s show features exhibitors from 38 countries, including well-known design hubs such as Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland. Around 30,000 attendees are expected to visit the Javits Center and browse the show’s encyclopedic offerings.

From April 25 through April 27, the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, Connecticut, will host its 33rd annual Fine Art & Flowers show. The event will feature around 50 floral arrangements, each inspired by a specific painting from the museum’s collection. Florists, garden clubs, and interior designers from all over New England will participate in the highly-anticipated event.

Paintings in this year’s show include everything from Baroque masterpieces to contemporary works. All proceeds from the Fine Art & Flowers event will benefit the Wadsworth’s special exhibitions, educational programs, and operating expenses. Visitors are invited to nominate their favorite floral display for the People’s Choice Award.

The Wadsworth Atheneum is the oldest public art museum in the United States and boasts one of the most extensive European art collections in the country, with exceptionally strong Old Master and Impressionist holdings. The museum is in the midst of a $33 million renovation and plans to reinstall its collection of European paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts before the restoration concludes in September 2015.

The fourth annual Dallas International Art, Antique & Jewelry Show will kick off with an opening night preview party on Thursday, November 7 at the Dallas Market Hall. Each year, collectors, curators and art lovers from across the globe flock to the high-profile event to browse the selection of furniture, silver, fine art, antiquities, porcelain, manuscripts, Americana, jewelry, textiles and more.

This year’s show will include a Designer Showcase featuring room vignettes created by five leading local interior designers. In addition, guests of the Dallas International Art, Antique & Jewelry Show will be able to take exclusive tours of the show floor with Miller Gaffney, founder of Miller Gaffney Art Advisory and one of the stars of PBS’ hit series Market Warriors.  

The Dallas International Art, Antique & Jewelry Show, which is organized by the Palm Beach Show Group, will take place through Monday, November 11.
