From New York to New Mexico: Masterworks of American Modernism from the Vilcek Foundation Collection opened at Phoenix Art Museum on June 7, 2015. The exhibition includes 65 objects of American modernism spanning more than fifty years by notable artists like Stuart Davis, Arthur Dove, Marsden Hartley and Georgia O’Keeffe. The subject matter ranges from the skyscrapers of New York City to the adobe homes of the American Southwest. These objects are on loan from the Vilcek Foundation in New York that was started by Marica and Jan Vilcek, immigrants from the former Czechoslovakia.

Bud and Suzanne Selig, who have been generous contributors to the Milwaukee Art Museum, will donate $2.5 million to create and support a chief curator position at the Phoenix Art Museum.

Suzanne Selig serves on the Phoenix Museum Board of Trustees, allowing her to extend her artistic support beyond Milwaukee and the Calatrava addition to the museum. The Seligs have homes in Milwaukee and Arizona.

The world best remembers Leonardo da Vinci as a painter. His "Mona Lisa" and "The Last Supper" rank among the most famous works in history.

But Leonardo also was an architect, musician, cartographer, mathematician, inventor, engineer, writer, botanist and geologist, among other things. Often described as the archetype for the Renaissance man, Leonardo was curious about the world and how things work. He recorded his observations, thoughts, inventions and theories down on paper, later bound into a number of codices.
