This fall, Stanford University will open the McMurtry Building, an innovative new facility to house Stanford’s Department of Art & Art History as well as the Art & Architecture Library. Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the 100,000-square-foot space will unite the making and studying of art at Stanford under one roof for the first time. Open to students in time for the fall quarter and with a dedication ceremony on October 6, 2015, the $85-million building is the newest addition to Stanford’s burgeoning arts district at the entrance of campus.

The Dallas Art Fair, returning for its seventh edition on April 9–12, will bring nearly 100 galleries and art dealers from around the country and around the world to the Fashion Industry Gallery (f.i.g.) in Dallas's downtown Arts District.

The cornerstone of the city's annual Dallas Art Week, the fair will be accompanied by a series of major art exhibitions and events at various other venues. In a statement, Dallas Art Fair co-founder John Sughrue described the week as "an infinitely rich opportunity to experience the contemporary arts," while co-founder Chris Byrne promised the fair would offer its "largest and most diverse selection of exhibitors to date."

Tom Gilmore, the developer who helped wake the sleeping giant Downtown 15 years ago with his multi-building Old Bank District project, makes things happen. So his proposal for a contemporary art museum in the heart of the Historic Core should have legs—he's already working with SCI-Arc professor/architect Tom Wiscombe on designs for the Old Bank District Museum, which will occupy basements, rooftops, and mezzanines of the Hellman Building, Farmers and Merchants Bank Building, and the Old Bank Garage, all at Fourth and Main. Gilmore is also shoring up financing on the project with business partner Jerri Perrone. And art is arriving already, the Downtown News reports, with a two-and-a-half-ton sculpture that was moved from the Arts District to the roof of the Old Bank Garage a few months ago; it now anchors the home of a forthcoming sculpture garden.
